Just like honey from the bee

Good afternoon.

I am showing you something inspired by a very unlikely occurrence. The weekend before last, I was on my way to do some shopping and I was stung by a bee! We had the windows down and I felt a ticklish then stinging sensation on my arm. I looked down and there it was! The bee stung me twice and then flew out the window. Not before I scared the hell out of Matt with my yelp of surprise. It was unsettling but not terrible.

This is where it gets really weird, so bear with me. I'm not allergic to bee stings but I do have weird allergic reactions to insect/arachnid bites. Like mass swelling, unbearable itchiness and what I describe as skin necrosis. Yeah, it's pretty gross and terribly uncomfortable. The reaction I had to the bee stings this time were just like any other bug bite I've ever had. So strange. Anyway, I have a nasty looking mark on my arm and I will say no more because it's gross and you really don't want to know. However, it's healing very nicely and stopped itching. Yay!
Is that a weird inspiration or what?

Base is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lightening.
Stamp is from plate B02 and done with Wet n' Wild Black creme
The "flight patterns" are in Black Creme and done with a striper brush

This came out pretty cute! I don't have a problem with bees in general and appreciate their place in things. But I could do without being stung if the reaction I had occurs again. Just saying is all. Mind you, this was only the third time in my life I've had a bee sting so I guess I'm good. ;)

So, what do you think? Cute or creepy?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  2. Those are so cute! What fauxnad is the bee from?

Here is a little story: when I was 11 I got stung 10 separate times through the summer including once in my armpit and once in the center of my upper lip. It truly sucked! I have similar reaction to bites as you, and those suckers love me. I have some still healing mosquito bites on my leg that are pretty nasty and are just now starting to heal and not itch. So annoying!

  3. I get terrible skin reactions to ant, gnat, mosquito and fly stings/bites, but not so much with bees. My brother, on the other hand, would die from a single bee sting, and has to carry his "kit" at all times.

That said, I did an image search for skin necrosis to see if my skin reactions match. I don't get grossed out by too many things- but eeeeeeewwwwww!!!!!

I think your bee mani is absolutely adorable!!! I Love those flight patterns...you made a good art mani totally fabulous with that small addition!

  4. Thank you very much!
It's good to know I'm not alone in the weird skin reaction department. ;)

loverlada - The plate I used is a fauxnad I got from Ebay. It's the GCOCL plates seen floating around the interwebs. It's an 18 piece set, reasonably priced and ships from Hong Kong.

Lisa - I've missed you! Thanks for coming by and thank you for your kind words. Sorry I piqued your curiosity about skin necrosis. I exaggerate a little but I swear it's like my skin just falls apart after being bitten. No bueno!

  5. I love it, so cute!

I'm allergic to bee stings. The last time I got one, I walking out to my car on the way to a drs. appt. I got to the appt and showed my dr who promptly told me there was nothing wrong with my arm, despite the fact that it hurt like a mofo (yeah, I'm old skool), it was bright red, it burned, I could feel the poison running through my veins (literally) and it was swollen to twice it's normal size. I went to work the next day and everyone and their grandmother told me I needed to have it checked by a dr. Yeah...
