Starry for sure. (Mega Post)

Good morning!

I'm so sad to see summer go. I married on the first day of fall so I always remember when my favorite time of year will end. So, I have a giant neon post to begin to say goodbye to summer. Reluctantly.

I regularly hit up Ross for Color Club polishes. I love getting those multipacks for $7.99 even though it frustrates me that they are never labeled. It also seems my packs never have a listing of colors on them either. This time, I got a really messed up package.

The Ross store in Woodland, CA is pretty bad y'all. It was a righteous mess and the cosmetic section was utterly trashed. I was reluctant to pick up the Starry Temptress I did because most of the other packages had clearly been opened and used. I managed to find one that appeared to be less molested and I scurried out of there.
What I got was a bit of a head scratcher. I don't know if this happened in store or what. But I am missing a color from the collection, it was replaced by a bottle of top coat and Starry Temptress top coat is not in my package. I have a super rad flakie top coat in it but I don't know if it is Covered in Diamonds or Diamond Drops. It all made for a less than ideal experience.

So, how did the colors I did get do? I'll show you:

Color Club Ultra-Astral
Three coats, no top coat

Color Club Wink, Wink Tinkle
Three coats, no top coat

Color Club You Got Soul-ar
Three coats, no top coat

Color Club Otherworldly
Three coats, no top coat

Color Club Space Case
Three coats, no top coat
Final picture blurred to show glitter

I am missing Glitter Envy, the green neon of this collection. Boo. Anyway, I adore neons and I love unexpected neon colors. So this was right up my alley. All of the bottles show it being loaded with holo glitter and they are loaded with it. However, you hardly see the holo or any shine.
Each coat covers the glitter, giving kind of a jelly sandwich effect.
Formula was what I expected for neons, a tiny bit thick. Dry time was good and as usual, dried matte.
Unfortunately, adding top coat does not bring out the shine of the glitter.

Overall, I was really disappointed. I wanted bright neon and bling-y holo. I got half of that.
In spite of that, I like that it does have glitter. It does make it stand out from other neon collections. I was hoping for a bit more.

Being disappointed by this certainly fits the tone of this post. I wish summer wasn't ending. I need to win Powerball so I can just head to South America for the winter. Dare to dream...

There you have it. I thank you for coming by. Hope you have a lovely day.

I purchased these at Ross in Woodland, CA for $7.99 plus tax. Opinions are my own.

  1. I LOVED this collection! The glitter top coat does a make difference and just a clear top coat in general made a huge difference too. The green was my favorite so that sucks that it was missing from you package :(

    1. I think I got a bad bunch entirely. Looking at other swatches, they look a lot more sparkly.
I wish I had the green too and I wish I had the correct glitter top coat. Damn Ross! (I'm just gonna blame them.)
Thanks for coming by today. You know I *heart* you something fierce!

  2. I love all my color clubs, they are great. Sucks when a store doesn't or can't keep better order.

    1. I love all of the Color Clubs I own. I was just disappointed that the glitter gets covered up. When I put topcoat on, it was okay. Just not what I was hoping for.
      P.S. I *HEART* you!

  3. It isn't just Ross, tho they are bad enough... It's the nasty jerks who think nothing of opening packages, swatching, making a mess of everything then just walking away. Grrr!

I loved this collection. It's really gorgeous and the sparkle and shine is much better with top coat. If you can find Glitter Envy grab it, it's a keeper. :)

I hate when stores can't keep their displays clean. They may be understaffed or management has different priorities but it certainly makes for a less than pleasurable shopping experience.
I also despise people who think nothing of tampering with packages and making a mess. It's a weird sense of entitlement and it's terribly inconsiderate.

I would like to find Glitter Envy and Starry Temptress top coat just to have the complete set. However, I was still disappointed when I used topcoat. My expectations were different and that's the issue. Not that Color Club messed up.

  4. A nearby DD's Discounters started keeping all the polishes in front of the check out counter, and SURPRISE, the packages remain untampered with. Unfortunately, any other store I visit with these kinds of sets ends up with messy, ruined packages like the one you described.

I personally own this set with every color except the lightest pink, which some jerk had opened and spilled at my Ross. I appreciate your comments about loving neons and holding on to them as fall begins, makes me feel better about doing a "neon week" as summer draws to a close.

I'm sorry you didn't get that pink. It is just so frustrating how inconsiderate people can be, no?

I'm all for neon year round. A bright shot of color in the dead of winter is very cheerful.
